#05: Prince & The Revolution - I Would Die 4 U
Yes, there’s the blatant Christ allegory, but even as the messiah, Prince’s libido is inescapable—anyone else read the title as proto-sexting scripture? To my ears, his proffered sacrifice is an erotic gesture, the “I’m not your lover” lyric notwithstanding. Or maybe that’s the trick: A salvation song delivered through the Prince/sex idiom. The sensual rush of the dream pop backdrop makes worship sound like a sweaty, intimate affair—you know, the passion of the Prince. Then again, I could be wrong. Either way, Prince is god.
Prince is part of my religion too.
